Coach guide
Everything from creating a team to sharing the recap, roughly in the order you'll hit it. Anything marked Paid needs a subscription; everything else is free.
Setting up
Create your team
Two fields: the team name and the season. Pick one of the season options and the dates are set for you — September through June — or set custom dates later in Settings. Games played outside the season window don't count toward player stats, and the app warns you before you start one.
If you were already tracking a player on your own before creating the team, RinkTally offers to add them to the roster and bring their history with them.
Build the roster
Team → Roster → + Add Player. Name and jersey number are all you need — position is optional. The app suggests the next free number and warns you if one is already taken, including by an inactive player.
Sort the roster by number, name or position. Removing a player keeps their stats — they move to an Inactive list at the bottom and can be restored any time.
Add your schedule
Team → Schedule → + Add Game. Opponent is required; location, home/away and the date and time are optional. Scheduling ahead means the Start Tracking button on your home screen arrives pre-filled — worth doing, because it's one less thing to type standing on the bench.
Tracking a game
Before the puck drops
Tap Start Tracking Game from the next-game card, or New Gameif it isn't scheduled. You'll pick a tracking mode:
Simple tracks goals and shots. Advanced adds faceoffs and penalties. You can switch between them mid-game, so start simple if you're not sure.
Recording events
Two columns — your team on one side, the opponent on the other — with a tile per stat showing a running count. One tap records one event.
Shots are a single tap. Goalsfor your team open a sheet to pick the scorer and up to two assists, or record it as Unknown if you didn't catch it. Opponent goals record instantly. Faceoffs are one tap per side. Penalties open a sheet for the type, the length, and which of your players took it. You can also change goalies mid-game and mark an opponent goal as an empty-netter.
Fixing mistakes
Every tap pops a toast naming what you recorded with an Undo button. If you miss that window, open Recent in the header — it lists every event in the game with its own Undo, so you can remove the wrong one rather than just the last one.
Periods, overtime and shootouts
End Periodmoves you on. Periods 1 and 2 advance straight away; after the third you get a summary with the score and the option to start overtime or a shootout if it's tied. You can step back a period if you advanced by mistake.
A shootout is tracked round by round — pick your shooter, then Goal or Miss. The winner is detected automatically and the game ends.
Signal, or the lack of it
The header shows Synced, Syncing, Offlineor a pending count. Tracking works exactly the same with no bars — everything is stored on your phone and uploads when you're back in range. Don't sign out while something is still pending.
Shot Tracker Paid
With Shot Tracker on, every shot and goal opens a half-rink and one tap records where it came from. Later you get a shot chart per period or for the whole game, with shots as circles and goals as diamonds.
Your first three games are free, counted per team. A game only uses one of them when you actually save a location — turning the toggle on, opening the rink or skipping a shot doesn't count. Viewing shot charts is always free, including for parents.
After the game
Review before saving
Ending a game shows every event grouped by period, each with an × to remove it. This is the moment to catch a double-tap. Then Confirm & Finish saves it.
The recap
Final score, result badge, shots and faceoffs side by side, penalties, and a goal-by-goal list. Tap any of your goals to fix the scorer or assists, or delete it — the score re-syncs automatically. There's a free-text notes field that saves as you go, and Share Recap produces a formatted text summary you can drop into a team chat.
Every past game is reachable from Team → Recent Games, and the recap works the same way there.
Season stats
Team → See all. Your record, goals and shots for and against, and a game-by-game list you can tap into. Home and away splits are Paid.
Player pages
Tap any player for their goals, assists, points, penalty minutes and games played — free, with per-game averages once they've played three. Goalie stats, the goals-and-assists chart and the full game log are Paid.
If a parent is tracking their own stats and has chosen to share them, their totals appear here too. If they haven't, you'll see "not shared" — that's their choice to make, not a bug.
Bringing other people in
Invite a parent
Open a player and tap Invite Parent. They get a six-digit code by email and land already linked to that player, with nothing to set up. You can see pending invitations in Settings and resend or cancel them.
A parent can see the team's roster, schedule, games and stats, and can track their own player's stats separately from yours. They can't change anything about the team.
Invite family and friends
Invite Family on a player creates an eight-character code — something like ABCD-2345 — and opens your share sheet so you can text or email it. Whoever redeems it sees the live score, the period, shots on goal and every goal as it happens. Nothing else: no roster, no schedule, no other players.
Each code works up to ten times and expires after 30 days. You can turn a code off at any point, which stops new people using it without removing anyone already following, and you can remove followers individually.
Parents can create these codes for their own player too. If you'd rather they didn't, you can turn that off for the whole team.
Whoever you send it to doesn't need an account. They install the app, tap the link, and they're watching — no email, no sign-up.
One code for the whole team
Team → Invite Families makes a single code that covers your whole roster. Drop it in the team chat once instead of minting one per child. Everyone who uses it sees the same thing a single-player follower sees: the live score, the period, shots, and the goals as they happen.
Only you can make a team code. A parent can invite family for their own child, but handing out access to everyone else's children is your call, not theirs.
Worth being deliberate about where it goes. Anyone holding it can see your roster's names and jersey numbers in the goals feed — share it where you'd share the schedule, not publicly. You can turn it off whenever you like, and doing so doesn't remove anyone already following.
Parent requests
Someone following your team can tell you that a player is their child. Those show up under Team → Parent Requestswith the player and the email of whoever asked, and one tap links them as a parent — you don't have to send an invitation or know their address in advance.
You approve rather than it happening automatically, for the obvious reason: a follow code can be passed around, and you're the only one who actually knows who the parents are. If a player already has a parent linked, the request says so — a second one is fine when that's what you expect.
Your account
Settingsholds your team name and season, pending invitations, your email address, your plan, and sign-out. Deleting your account is permanent — your team loses its coach, but players, games and parent tracking data are not deleted. If you have a paid subscription, cancel it in the App Store or Play Store first; deleting the app or your account doesn't stop the billing.
